For example, if your goal is to earn more money, you first have to be more specific. How much money will you earn, by when will you earn it? What do you have to do to get there? Look for a new job? Ask for a raise? Sell a new account? Go back to school and finish your degree? What steps do you need to take to get to the earnings goal? Create a plan to move through each step with a timeline attached. Step Two: Set Goals Together Two things are important regarding goal setting as a couple. Number one, it’s fine to set individual goals, but you must share them with your spouse and make sure they fit with their goals. You both might want to earn a lot of money, but if one of you is working to earn money to send kids to college and the other is working to earn money to travel first class all over the world without kids, you both have nice dreams, but you may be out of whack as a couple. My recommendation is to dream on your own first. It’s important that you discover what is important to you and share that with your partner. If you skip that part and go directly to step two, the more vocal or determined of the partnership will dominate the conversation and the other will go along with their goals, simply because they don’t have any other dreams to include in the master plan. Most of the time, I really hate shopping. I don’t even like to shop for a bottle of milk. But, in Bangkok, I find myself shopping almost every day. When I first arrive in Bangkok, I go shopping to fill up my refrigerator. Even though it is fully stocked, I tell the concierge to empty it. I like to stock it with cheaper items from the local 7-11. I have the hotel remove everything except the two free bottles of water and pick up some beer, soda, red bull, and a couple of extra bottles of water I also get some chips and candy. Since I travel light, I usually go out the first or second day and pick up some shorts and T-shirts. I will also get a few DVD movies to watch back in the hotel room. I have some preferred local toiletries and pick these up too. I really enjoy using Lux shower soap. I usually pick up these few items at one of the many street vendors on Sukhumvit Road. Never accept the first price. Always bargain and don’t be afraid to walk away if they don’t meet your price. Walking away may drop the price drastically. If not, walk 10 feet and you will see the same items. I make it a point to go to Pantip Plaza to check out the latest in electronics. This is a five-story electronics heaven. I may or may not pick up an unlocked, tri-band cell phone that I can use in Thailand and also back in America. I will also take a look at the latest in pirated software and Thai movies. I enjoy Thai music so I will buy some CD's, MP3's and videos. Hardware is not really a bargain in Thailand, so I don’t bother looking at PCs or laptops. My favorite place to shop is at the flea market. In Thai, this is called talat naht. It is open daily and may be in the Guinness Book as largest open air market in the world. It is called Chatuchak or JJ market and it is open at about eight in the morning and I try to get there by nine. If I am early, I will just grab a bite to eat at one of the many street vendors. You will want to arrive early and complete your shopping by about eleven o'clock. Otherwise it will be way too hot. Shopping under all those canvas tarps in close quarters can be extremely hot. Make sure you bring a bottle of water or buy when at the market. Most of the items are 99 or 199 Baht. This works out to about three US dollars or six US dollars. This is the place I buy most of the clothes I want for me and for my family and friends. You can also find clothes for less than that. I have gotten many outfits for my 1-year old granddaughter for about $1.25 per set. I also pick up some additional Thai music and videos. The vendors will have stereos and TV's set up so that you can hear and see what they are selling. You can also the items to make sure they work. Prices for videos and music are about 3 dollars per CD. It seems like you are always buying something just walking around Bangkok. I can be out going to dinner or to a bar, and I will see something that catches my eye and I buy it. Vendors also sell their wares while you are eating or drinking. They can be pests but every once in a while I will see something that I want to buy. Bangkok seems like it is one giant flea market. Shops are everywhere, vendors are located every 10 feet, and malls are popping up all over the city. Large outlets are also available in Bangkok, but I prefer the smaller places where I can still use my bargaining skills. So, even if you are like me and absolutely hate shopping, you will find that you will be shopping daily in Bangkok and actually enjoying yourself. Maybe it is because of how cheap all the goodies are.

The way to reduce this risk is by investing in companies with positive net cash. Net Cash is the difference between cash & short-term investments with the amount of long term debt. We can find this three items on the balance sheet of every company. A lot of times, one can include long term investment as cash. Long term investment can include instruments such as 18 month Certificate of Deposit or treasury bond maturing one year or more. To be on the safe side, let us consider just cash and short-term investments. You might wonder why we do not subtract short-term liabilities such as accounts payable. Good question. The reason is that accounts payable is normally used to buy inventories. Some of the revenue is also tied up in accounts receivable. In normal business operation, these two things can be used to pay for short-term liabilities. There are of course exceptions such as banks where they use short-term liabilities ( customers' deposit) to give loans (long-term investments) to businesses or individuals. Once we understand why we define net cash the way they are, we can then appreciate the function of it. Net Cash defines the financial structure of a company. We can tell companies with strong financial structure by looking at its net cash position. Generally, investing in companies with positive net cash is less risky. As the word implies, positive net cash means that the company has more cash in hand than long term debt. In other words, the company is less leveraged and less burdened with debt. It can pay its long term debt right away if it wants to. This is the right way to leverage a business. All of our sample portfolio stock picks have a positive net cash on their balance sheet. The reason is that when our prediction fails, the company is less likely to go bankrupt. When a company has plenty of cash, it can afford to incur losses until its business turn around. Another reason is that companies with positive net cash can afford to buy assets on the cheap during economic downturn. When the economy is in a bad shape and losses are mounting, weaker companies tend to raise cash by selling off its valuable assetspanies with positive net cash will be there to buy. Finally, companies with positive net cash can afford to buy back shares or give dividends even when businesses are bad. It is no surprise. They have more financial muscles than others to be generous. This will benefit common shareholders like us. There are some investors that feel that companies with positive net cash are not efficient. They reason that companies should take advantage of the power of leverage so that it can maximize shareholders' return. Well, their view is not wrong. Buying companies with positive net cash might not give you a 10 fold return in one year. But, you won't lose all your capital in one year either. It is all up to you. You really have to experience this emotion to understand its strong hold on a persons mind. Not only their mind, but their entire being. Jealousy does have one fear, that is "Love". Love conquers all and that is as real as the pain we feel inside when we are imprisoned by the fears of jealousy. We need to know that you trust us and that you know that we are not in control of this thing that causes us to fear life. To know you are on our side and want to help us defeat this loneliness will truly give us that extra bit of strength that we need and the will to combat our own fears. We also need to focus on our minds and through help from our friends and others that feel our loneliness, use that strength to work against the negative thoughts that jealousy controls. We must tell ourselves that we are safe, we are loved, and we are needed. We must focus on the good around us and use our thought energy to force positive thoughts in place of negative ones. When we do defeat our negative mind, we should pat ourselves on our backs, because this is truly a conquest. Identify with the fact that you have won and the win will be greater the next time. A human economic system should ideally also take into account the well being of the entire ecosystem, which is body of Mother Earth. I will tend to regard the Mother Earth as a living consciousness with her various elements (water, air, wildlife, etc) constantly seeking to remain in harmonious equilibriume to think of it, isn't this quite like the way the body of a living being functions? Perhaps, economy and civilisation's progress should not be about humans for humans only. We tend to see 'less-than-holistically' and believe that money-making has little or nothing to do with the welfare of our Mother Earth and the ecosystem. But the fact is we humans do take sustenance from the atmosphere, animal and plant kingdoms; therefore we are dependent upon other species and resources on Earth. As such, human activities should be accounted for within a equation that does not place the human species upon a pedestal (which is being treated as superior); but rather assigns the 'so-called intelligent biped' objectively with other species and elements of this diverse planet. In my opinion, the current human activities are simply too self-absorbed within our own kind. The truth of things is that everything, 'however insignificant it may appear to be, is in actual fact, unique. "Feeling special" and "above others" are simply beliefs concocted by the human psyche, and have relevance only in a human society. Holistic & equitable replenishment & redistribution amongst all elements and species on Earth should be the a central theme for sustainable living, instead of the human biased "competitive" model.
